It's just one of those days…

Indeed… a day when nothing is exactly going ‘wrong’ but isn’t going according to plan either.

By now I should be at the gym well into my daily trek and perspiring with the extended effort. As it is I’m sitting at home (again) in front of the computer with yet another cup of delicious liquorice tea! Why is this you ask… since I have a competition to win that depends on my getting regular doses of strenuous exercise?

Started off this morning with a 4:30 a.m. rise to get the wife and kids up. Skating lesson on Thursday mornings… got to move. We get there, do the thing, leave for school. As we get there the eldest daughter decides to tell me she’s forgotten her sports gear. Bearing in mind there was a cross country carnival (i.e. race) on today this wasn’t the best thing she could have done.

I drop them off… zoom home to find it… and can’t. I ring the wife, who tells me it *is* in her ‘main’ school bag. I text the daughter and tell her this… also to let me know soon if she needed anything else, trainers perhaps? I sit around looking sour for an hour until I decide she *isn’t* going to ring, text, email, call etc and decide to go to the gym.

As I leave the house I see the celery is wilting as are a few other plants so I need to water them first. An hour later I’m ready to go to the gym.

As I get ready (again) I remember we have nothing for dinner… so go off to the local Aldi to get something… nothing fancy, just another chicken – at least it’s food. I set off home… and then remember the swimming pool is still not working.

Not sure if I mentioned this before but before Easter the outlet from pool to filter became blocked. I called the pool people (Swimart) who came, looked at it, went away, came back went away…. etc. Last Friday they sent round someone who stayed the entire afternoon and basically told me exactly what we already knew… it’s blocked. They now want to charge is $300 for his efforts… hmmm… we’ll discuss that later.

I go in and we have a discussion about the pool…. which I *will* write up later! Suffice it to say I eventually left there intending to go to the gym after getting the food in the fridge and cupboards.

I get out of the car, take out the bags, close the door… on my leg. My leg now has a deep scratch and bruise and is bleeding prettily! šŸ™‚

So… after getting up at 4:30 a.m. intending to be sorted out and in the gym by 9:00 a.m. I find myself at 11:45 a.m. still sitting here grumbling to myself (and you) about nothing in particular.

One ‘good’ thing was that I picked up a cheap camera in Aldi while I was there to act as a standby until I can get a decent one… maybe for my birthday in a few months. It’s a 5 Mega-pixel model and came with a1 Gb SD card, battery charger and rechargeable batteries. Cost $87. The first pic with it being uploaded in a few seconds.

With any luck I’ll soon be able to settle down and create the three sites I’ve been wanting to do for the last week. With any luck I’ll be able to get to the gym and do some exercise. With any luck… I’ll get some luck! šŸ˜€

Edit:
Just to further illuminate the point. As I was driving down towards the guitar tutorial I got a phone call to say the usual teacher wasn’t available today… but we could we take a 4:30 p.m. booking with a different person… or maybe a rain check til Saturday? I said no thanks… just give us a credit from next terms fees. I think I’ve had enough for one day! šŸ™‚

  1. So exercise – thought I’d let you know that I’ve had a brain relapse and decided to do another marathon – so what I hear you ask – it’s in 3 weeks is what!

Have I done any major training – nope – saying that you know I run about 30+ miles a week whatever – but my next door neighbour has been going on and on and on about his bloomin London marathon plans.

I’ve got sick to the back teeth hearing about how much he was doing, how well he was going, how much he was looking forward to it, how flaming superior he felt – so last Sunday I thought I’d go and out and just see how far I got – so I pottered round 30kms and it actually felt ok – as ok as running 30kms can feel that is.

So I’ve entered the Stratford on Avon marathon on April 27th. I know I’m mad – I know : I KNOW!!
I’m going to do one more long run – maybe 32 kms in 10 days time then rest up.

I’ve unfinished business with the marathon. My best time is 4hrs 55secs and I want to run under 4 hours if I can and I’m going pretty well so I think this is as good a time as any to have another shot at it.

I’m encouraged only by the fact that I didn’t really thrash Sunday’s long run and did 2.36 for the 30kms. It surely can’t take me another 80 minutes to do the other 12kms can it?

I’ll let you know how I get on.

    Meanwhile GET DOWN THE GYM!!

  2. Wow… so insanity *does* run in the family!! In your case quite literally! šŸ™‚

Still, I have to say “Well done that man.”. You’ll finish it without doubt, question is will you set yourself a personal best? We will be watching the skies for omens and portents!!

Seriously, don’t forget to drop a line to let us know how it went ok??

As for me going to the gym, I’ve come down with a cold which explains why I was shirking… and now I *know* why, I can fight back! I’ll walk dogs for an hour as usual then I’ll be off to the torture chamber to drag myself onto the treadmill for yet another hour. As long as I take the medication before I set off I should be able to finish. šŸ™‚

Thanks for the encouragement tho… as I told Sally (the trainer) the other day, whilst I’m ok once I start moving, I need bullying to get me on the way! šŸ™‚

  3. Well done Chris. Thing is you’ve done it before so you know you can do it again. This time you’ll go a bit further and make it stick!!
