The world famous QE2, once the pride of the fleet, has finally been sold off to become a ‘floating hotel’ to be moored off the coast of the Palm Resort in Dubai.
The Cunard ship which has sailed the world since 1969 has been sold for US$100 million and will no doubt be affectionately remembered by millions… even those who never sailed in her. Apart from her history of a cruise ship, she also saw active service in the Falklands War where she served as a troop ship.
Let’s hope she remains a tourist attraction for many years and doesn’t suffer the same fate as some others of her ilk and go down in a sheet of flame or be broken up for scrap!
