Taxi drivers around the world are rarely noted for their tolerance and happy dispositions and having been one I can understand why. However, sometimes you *do* have to feel for the people who sometimes get the rough end of the pineapple from drivers.
The latest complaint was from a woman released from hospital who told the driver she might have problems on the trip home. On the way she told him she was feeling ill and could he pull over. He didn’t… and she was then sick into the x-ray envelope she was carrying with her.
He then demanded an additional $150 fare and when she refused took her to a police station. After some hours (with the meter running) the taxi company agreed to ‘allow’ her to pay $60 additional far.
Her lawyers are now demanding a refund and an apology… I’ll be amazed if they get either π
I remember back in the 70’s demanding twenty pounds additional fare for someone being sick in the car… after all I had to clean it up and the car was off the road for the rest of the night! Also I once made a 12 year old girl who’d cut her thumb hold her hand out of the window for the entire trip to hospital! Her mother was furious… but as I pointed out to the mother, I didn’t want blood on the upholstery. She wasn’t impressed.
Ahh… the joys of motoring for a living… am I glad I’m out of it .
