Our garden isn’t very large… a lot of our space is frontage which we don’t use much. Another large chunk is taken up by the pool, the lawn area which houses the kids trampoline and swings, and the little patio (which itself is almost entirely covered by the table and chairs:)) but we *do* have a small ‘retreat’ area alongside the pool where we can sit and listen to the tinkling of the water features.

It doesn’t look large on the photo and it really isn’t… but it’s big enough for four or five of us to sit around drinking coffee (or better yet something more alcoholic) and putting the world to rights… so how much bigger does it need to be? π
You might think it would be cramped, but in fact with the pool just behind it actually feels quite open and friendly.
Overall of course the garden is still a mess. We’d intended dpoing far more with it… but the arguments with the landscaper meant we couldn’t improve on his crappy work until the outstanding issues had been resolved but now that it’s all behind us we can start to take a bit more interest in it and pull it together into something to take pleasure in.
Apart from the useless landscaper the garden has had two large dogs to contend with and the plant life, expecially the grass is repeadedly wrecked by their ministrations. What plants they’ve not chewed their way through have been trampled underfoot as they charge about youwling and barking at the dogs next door.
The result is that at the rear of the house, is an area comprising a bare looking crap covered lawn surrounded by scraggy looking bushes and bare earth. Not exactly a welcoming look. Things need to be done and will be.
