After getting the wife to buy me a new PDA, I finally discovered a new repairer of the old machine! Grrr… they’re up in Queensland, and when I rang for a quote they said oooh…. around $200 or so… agghh…!! I *have* to repair is as it originally cost around $1500 and the new one … More Just to add to the merriment
So I got the Toshiba back!

Went over to Danka and picked it up. Total repair cost was $1,094.94 which included a new DVD drive ($600), an 80Gig disk ($268.18) and a 2.5″ disk ‘enclosure’ (i.e. box) for the old disc. Labour was $72.22.  Not cheap but less than buying a new one… or even buying a new desktop. On … More So I got the Toshiba back!

Yet again Channel 9 is messing about with the coverage of the Commonwealth Games. Not content with ignoring almost all countries performances and all sports which didn’t have an Australian participating *and* in with a chance at Gold… … they are now delaying giving us the closing ceremony. At last real progress seems to be on the way regarding a vaccine for food poisoning. As a start there is evidence supporting trials for a Listeria vaccine, an often fatal infection carried in food. Canadian ‘hunters’ have begun the annual slaughter of baby harp seals expecting to shoot or club to death around 350,000 of the helpless animals. Clubbing is preferable for the sealers as it damages the fur less though there are regular reports of the animals being skinned whilst alive and being left to die in agony. … More Harping on about seals.
