It’s the 12th Sept so just 17 days to go and it’s creeping up ever faster. Still a bit ambivalent because of my seeming able to adhere properly to the pre-op diet. Yesterday was a good indication of how I might manage. I started off with a CSIRO shake using up the 250 ml of milk it demands. At 11:30 I had an apple and then followed the ‘menu’ I mentioned yesterday. I had a salad for lunch (without protein, and possibly had more lettuce than recommended), but celery and lettuce being what they are, I didn’t mind the little extra, since I was aware it would help keep me on track. However, it wasn’t until the evening I realised I’d not had my second shake!
Even so, for the rest of the afternoon, I managed quite well without any urge to snack or pick until the evening when I made myself a stir fry with assorted green veg (a few string beans, one brussel sprout and two mangetout) cooked in the tablespoon of oil I’m allowed. To this, I added some sliced lamb and cooked it quickly. It was really nice and I think I’ll do it again tonight. The thing is I, again, forgot the shake! I had just one shake all day and managed quite comfortably.
This actually concerned me. There was a real ‘issue’ in deciding which would be better for me. Do I ignore the shakes if they aren’t as necessary as it might seem as long as I eat the salad and stir-fry? Or should I continue to take the three shakes *first* and only eat the other food *if*… and only if… I feel the need. On balance, however, I’ve eventually decided I should drink the shakes first. They are supposed to contain all the nutrients I need to survive for at most 12 weeks. Since I only need to follow the regime for three weeks I should be fine, I hope, if I can manage. So, onwards we go.
