Hot on the heels of the Hungry Hippo post yesterday comes today’s sudden pangs! At 11:15 I suddenly got the most intense hunger pains. No idea why I should get them today and not before but it hit me like a ton of bricks. I ate an apple and drank 200 – 300 ml of sparkling water neither of which helped in the slightest.
I struggled along for another 20 minutes and gave in. I decided I could have ‘elevenses’ since it was after all gone 11:00. I went off to the kitchen and had three Cruskits with tuna followed by a large stick of Celery and a large cup of tea. I’m still hungry, but feeling a lot better than I was. I’ve got no idea why I should suddenly start to feel like this, I’ve been ok with the diet for so long! Still, Even with the small ‘meal’ I’m still within the rules I set myself.
In reality, I’m not actually breaking my rules because I was always supposed to have both elevenses and an afternoon ‘snack’. It’s true that for the last few days I’ve not been having either so I suppose it’s not as bad as I’m making it sound, but still, it took me completely by surprise and got me quite worried I might find myself unable to stop myself from eating more. As it happens, the pangs *have* dissipated which reminded me I have to eat a lot more slowly and after eating, try to wait to allow the food I *have* eaten to absorb the ‘hunger hormone’ and stop the urgency of the desire to eat.
Unfortunately, things aren’t quite as simple as I made it sound because as ‘small’ a meal as it was still relatively high in calories! The Cruskits, tuna and celery still amounted to around 300 calories. Add that to the 100 calories in my tea (so far), and my shake which contains 200 calories. So the total calories I’ve had already today amount to 600 or so. Bearing in mind I’m trying to stay within 1200 per day (or less) this is a problem as it only leaves me 600 for both lunch and dinner! Problematic much.
It’s fairly simple to calculate the calories in a small ‘ham salad’. If I have a tomato (20 cals), cucumber (20 cals) a cup of lettuce (20), and a slice of ham (100) I’d be eating just 160 cals! Even with 125 grams of Four Bean Mix for protein, the total is still only approx 250 calories leaving me 350 for my evening meal. If I have a Muscle Chef meal (e.g. Black Pepper Beef), I would have another 390 calories. Add in the 50 calories apple, I had before the Cruskits, and I’d be eating approx 1250 calories for the day. Could be worse.
To be honest, after that somewhat expansive morning snack, I’m currently quite full so I may have a smaller lunch… e.g. some soup in the middle of the afternoon, and I’ll manage. The burning question, is what happens tomorrow? Will I succumb to hunger again?? Time will tell I suppose.
