You might be forgiven for thinking the answer to the heading is that luck has nothing to do with dieting. However, in my current situation, it’s not quite true. As I said last post, I’ve been not only increasing the size of my meals instead of reducing them and have been feeling sorely tempted to snack even in between those meals. But yesterday some luck struck.
Because of my weight and age, I take a bucketful of medications and my stock needed replenishing so visited the chemist to get more. While I was there he reminded me that I still had a script open for Ozempic that he’d not been able to fill because of the worldwide shortages. However, he now had some in stock and would I still want a box. I checked that he’d have more delivered so I’d not run out in a few weeks, and he assured me stock was now running more freely and he already had another order in place. (for more info see Weight Loss and Surgery below). What does this have to do with ‘luck’??
It was lucky for me that at a time my resolve was starting to weaken a little the ‘wonder drug’ reappeared to save the day so to speak. I’m taking .25mg to begin, I’m to take that dose for two weeks then raise it to .5mg for a further two weeks, then report back to the GP for evaluation etc. I’ll need that because of the dreadful side effects of the Saxenda injections. Still, even the low dose has made an immediate difference and I already feel very much less inclined to raid the fridge. As the dose increases I hope it will make even more of an impact and the weight will drop off at a more respectable rate. Obviously, it’s still just another ‘weapon’ to help me in the fight against my own food addiction but if it helps me make the lifestyle change become ‘habituated’ and my (new) normal way of life, it will have done its job. So… lucky.
