The parents – an update.

The oldies will be leaving these hallowed shores at the end of May, early June. Dad has had a sniff of an offer off a local company who’re expanding to the UK but they might well not contact him until he’s returned to the UK… but still… we live in hope. The real hope of course isn’t him getting an increased income, but more that there might be a possibility of his getting some sort of ‘sponsorship’ for a visa.

Probably won’t happen, but it all adds to the fun eh? 😀

Of course, along side all the to’ing and fro’ing is the inevitability of the old lady’s mental deterioration. Whilst the old man must accept her faculties are in decline he seems unable to accept that even in the last few weeks there’s been a clear change for the worse. Don;t ask me to quantify it, or even give concrete examples, but there *has* been a change.

He says this is a cyclical thing and ‘she comes and goes’. Currently he’s unwilling to face it that there is a lot more going than coming 😦

The upshot is of course whilst he firmly intends to return in December… even to the extent of saying he’ll be flying back on December 2nd… there is a clear and ever present possibility that the old lady will be in no fit state to fly.

What’s worse of course is that the old lady has been noticably suffering with this for the last 7 – 8 years. Bearing in mind that the average duration from onset to death is 7 – 10 years the prognosis isn’t looking good. Of course the Aricept for all it’s uncertain advantages might just be helping her. It’s a slim straw to hang on to but hang on we must.

So. Things are now pretty much the same as ever. As fast as they change… they stay the same.
