Back to the auction

Got into town yesterday evening, threaded my way through the insanity of rush hour traffic… lord It’s been a long time since I’ve done that (however did I happily drive through London? :)), collected the wife and the stuff she’d bought then headed home.

In retrospect, having looked at the quality of what we *did* win I think me might have well bought even more! The two tables are very well built and clearly worth far more than the $10 we paid. The four office chairs are almost new and *very* comfortable. The kids love them already… they are far better than anything they’ve been allowed to use. Maybe they’ll start using the computers properly now… or not 🙂

The bookshelves? well they seem to have given us the wrong ones. The wife ordered a woodgrain low set… and these are grey and high. No matter… even if they end up in the garage carryinmg yet more ‘stuff’, they are *still* worth more than the $10 she paid!

The TV is a “Phillips… something”… (not looked too closely) and apart from not having a ‘euro’ connecter socket at the back is in really good conditon! We hoicked it upstairs to the computer room (which still keeps the name :)) and connected it to the JVC media centre I bought at a real aucton online. It all works perfectly so the kids are now no longer ‘technologically challenged’. Whether we’re going to let them keep using the room as a bedroom is under question because they aren’t capable of keeping it tidy… but we’ll give them another chance and se what they do.

Actually… while on the subject of their ‘media centre’ all I can say is wow. Not because of the TV but because of the JVC system. It’s not just a combination of cassette deck, radio tuner, and CD/DVD player… but also has a karaoke function! It has 450 watts power and really makes the room rumble when it plays. If the screen was a little larger I’d be up there in preference to the lounge room. The system we have down here pales into insignificance compared to theirs!

Oddly enough while we were connecting it all together the wife looked at the white blinds and suggested we could use them as a projector screen instead of buying a new one… I wonder if this means she’s considering letting me buy one?? 😀
