By now I’d usually have gone rushing out to buy this sork of book… especially knowing its pedigree, however this time I’ve not done so.
This is partly because I’ve got so much work to do here I’ve just not had time to get to the book shop, but its also because several times I’ve read the excerpts published in the Silmarillion back in 1977 and have a pretty clear idea what the story is about.
It isn’t that I don’t want to delve into the world encompassed by Middle Earth or learn more about some of the events before the Lord of the Rings epic… it’s more that a tale of unmitigated horror isn’t what I need to read right now 🙂
There’s no point in my spoling the story for anyone who *hasn’t* read it, but it’s a tale of ongoing war, slaughter, incest, mistaken identity and confusion. Basically the story revolves around the original ‘Dark Lord’ (Morgoth) torturing one man and his family by setting his creatures (including a dragon) against them.
I *will* buy the book soon… but I’m not beating a path to the book store… just yet 😀
