Yet another dog day…

The littlies went to a Girl Guides church service today… it’s ‘Thinking Day’ today and the anniversary of the beginning of Scouting/Guiding so there was a parade… I think πŸ˜€

Anyway, we drove up Windsor Road on the way and as we drove I saw a small dog on the left resolutely walking along the side of the road, head down and looking a little ‘sad’. Like most people, I’d normally have passed by assuming it was on its way home, but this time something made me slow down to look at it for a while. I put the hazard lights on… and watched.

Eventually I decided that because it sisn;t have a collar and wasn’t doing the usual doggy things lilke sniffing bushes etc it must either be lost… or have been dumped.

In the end we decided to take the easy path and pick it up… just in case. The eldest daughter got out and after a minute or so, picked it up, put it in the car, and off we went to the church.

We had a closer look when we came out. It’s female amd didn’t look undernourished… though maybe was a bit thin. It didn’t have a collar and wasn’t obviously a young dog… twas a bit grey round the gills in fact. It has a limp… though whether that’s because of the walking or arthritis or… well who knows.

So it came home with us and after eating half a bowl of chicken meat it collapsed onto a cushion and has spent the entire day sleeping apart from two minutes when it went out, to have a drink.

Of course the other two dogs took it less well than thy might. Actually Kit was ok… but Stupid decided this was a treat… a new girlfriend who was of course unable to resist his’ charms’. She of course snapped at him a few times and the idiot has spent most of the evening locked out πŸ˜€

I’ll be making an appointment to see the vet tomorrow to see if it had been given a microhip… if it has it’ll get home… if not? Not sure what to do. We’re only allowed two dogs and the idiot’s behaviour seems to make me think keeping another isn’t such a good idea.

I’ll update the story tomorrow if I get to the vet.

  1. Cos those are the council regulations 😦 Too many dogs would make the place unliveable… the barking is bad enough as it is.

People on acreage can have more… some have 5 – 6, but on relatively small blocks like these two is plenty.
