Howard scared by Hicks support

John Howard is clearly beginning to run scared as public outcry over the governments lack of support for David Kicks becomes more and more strident. We’ve been campaigning here for two years and of course there’s been no change in the situation in all that time. David is *still* held in a hell hole in conditions that are as close to torture as possible but still be able to be classed as ‘coercion’.

However, movement is afoot. There is a federal election in the offing and little Johnnie has been stunned by what he sees as the sudden upwelling of support for the guy. It amazes me that someone with his political acumen could have got it *so* wrong.

Six backbenchers have pressured him to get David home, and the papers are finally filling column inches with the sheer injustice of it all.

A measure of the change of heart… as cynical and hypocritical as it is… can be seen from comments such as “that concern that he’s held indefinitely without trial weighs more heavily on me”. Yeah… right. Had he said *anything* similar a year or more ago we might have believed him… right now it smacks of political desperation.

We have a resurgent Labor party under Kevin Rudd and the distinct possibility that a mass of voters will vote against the Liberals simply on the principle that if *they* fall into trouble aborad their government might let *them* rot in jail!!

We’ll be watching this case with interest… and *then* we resume the fight to get Schapelle Corby home free!!
