Death in Iraq

Bombs explode daily in Iraq killing and maiming scores if not hundreds. Soldiers also die regularly. Yesterday was one of the worst days for the USA army in some time with 32 of their forces killed.

How long the US public will allow this to continue is a clear concern. Having jumped into the quagmire wtih no clear exit strategy the USA now finds itself in yet another nightmare scenario.

This one of course, despite the pundits claims, is *not* comparable to Vietnam. In Vietnam they were essentially fighting one organised force that itself had clear aims and objectives. In Iraq however, there *is* not single force but dozens, each with its own aims and aspirations. In addition, whereas in a large part of Vietnam they were seen as a supporting friendly force, in Iraq they are infidel invaders occupying the country without invitation.

In Vietnam the exit strategy was plain… give up and get out.. For Iraq I can’t see any clear solution to the issue. If the troops pull out… what would be left would be a nation in worse strife than Afghanistan under the Taliban and the potential for worse excesses than Bosnia or even maybe Rwanda.

And if the troops stay? What then? Escalation of troop numbers is the only possible answer… which in turn almost certainly will result in more deaths, which again will inflame public opinion.

The USA is in severe strife. Anyone got any ideas?? Pass them on to the shrublet… he needs all the help he can get.
