And off she went!
The alarm went off at 5:30 a.m. and up we got. The wife showered, dressed, poofied up her hair, added make up and a twisted pearl necklace, had breakfast… and went off to catch the bus to her new job.
The bus stop is the other side of the park that’s in front of the house, and as we leisurely wandered across she said “I hear a bus” and moved a little faster. Lucky she heard it… we saw it coming round the corner as we crossed the road! Would have been a fine start if she’d missed it.
She’s catching a bus for a couple of reasons. Firstly because we handed her Prius back to the Qantas leasing people yesterday so we only have the one, partly for ‘environmental reasons’, (i.e. why use a car if you don’t need to) and partly for simple economics. The cost of the bus is about the same as the cost of the tolls she’d pay driving her own car, so she saves hugely on the purchase price, the petrol, insuance and other running costs, and importantly… parking fees! It isn’t cheap to park in central Sydney so really the decision to abandon a private car in favour of public transport is really a no-brainer.
Of course she loses the convenience of the thing, and there is also the ‘status’ thing to consider… so maybe we’ll reconsider eventually, but for the time being the bus is king.
First days at a new job are always stressful, and apart from the stress of getting to the bus stop on time… we added a new problem. As she was boarding the bus I realised the hem of her dress had dropped and called her… but she had no time at all to fix it. An hour or so later she sent me a text message telling me she was sitting half naked in a dress alterations booth in Sydney waiting for it to be fixed and wasn’t happy. Well at least the bus got her there in good time. 😀
It all could have been much worse!
I’m looking forward to hearing how her day went… I think that story might take some time to tell.
Then there’s the blisters!
oh my feet hurt
When the hem on my trouser cuffs dropped a while back did I reach for the needle and thread? No way. I reached for my handy stapler, turned up the cuff to the right bit, click and done. I even stapled it from the inside , and used copper staples for a match on my brown cords. I didn’t become Head of Stationery for nothing y’know!
For some reason I get the idea that repair method may not produce such a good look on a $500 dress… but might provoke an unwanted reaction from her new boss 😀
I’ve done it as well… but I think blokes are less concerned with each others appearence than women who, on the whole, are very odd creatures really.
