The Hills Grammar School – Music Cafe

Just returned from an evening of music at the daughters school… and damn good it was too. The eldest one was in both the flute ensemble and a violin ensemble. The violin was a bit squesky… I think there were too many kids in it who’d not practised enough… but there were only four in the flute ensemble and they were pretty good playing Scott Jopin’s entertainer.

Hills Grammar

This school really excels in it’s music tuition and these mini-concerts show the pupils talents off to their advantage. What’s more they give the kids a chance at exposure in front of an audience… but in a non-threatening way.

At the end of each year the school runs a ‘music showcase’ which is a seriously well performed and presented tour de force of the full talents of the music department with several choirs, musi groups, soloists and groups…. but this one was a more intimate and less formal gathering where the kids could relax and let it all hang out so to speak.
We had a great little rock band, some jazz piano, a singing trio… one of who was the ‘buddy’ to my eldest when she was in kindy… nice to see and hear her. Lots of acoustic guitar, but also electric. We had classical quartet and lots more.

A damn good night all in all… and made all the better because the little one was taking part. Oh yes – and being free helps a lot 🙂
