Just been to get the littlest one from Guides. That acrid smell of smoke was even stronger than before… and this time as I was driving through the lanes I could see the smoke building up around me. It’s not so thick yet that we can’t see, but certainly thick enough for it to be obfvious it’s there. In appearance more like a soft mist.
We’ve been told there is another fire outbreak to the north west on the Putty Road… but whilst this smoke might have come from there it could just as easily have drifted 100k or so down the mountain slopes. As an arbiter of things to come it isn’t pleasant at all.

Of course… as bad as the quality of air is down here… give a thought to the people in the mountains where the fire is! Currently 400 firefighters and 15 aircraft are tackling the worst blaze however there is a forcast of high winds… up to 80kph… at around 3:00 a.m. This may force the flames towards the towns of Mt Tomah, Mt Wilson, Winmalee and Woodford so they are on a *high* alert in case they need to evacuated through the night.
An additional issue is that the threat will be at its highest at night… when the water bombing aircraft will be unable to fly!
This is shaping up to be another one of those summers of concern.
