Anticipation? Who needs it?

Yesterday I went off to the Resmed clinic for the second of four appointments designed to check how well the cpap regime is working for me. From yesterdays results I’d say all is as well as it should be… especially since it seems I *don’t* need to spend $1500 on a new machine! The 7 year old one is more than adequate for my particular situation… which is good I think. However, as I have the loaner for a whole month I figured I should test out other masks… just in case.Decided to try the ‘Swift’. Last night I assembled it, connected it to the machine… and fell into bed exhausted looking forward to a good nights sleep.

Well reglular readers will know by now that it’s *always* a bad move on my part to look forwards to anything no matter what it is… so of course it all went wrong. To begin it felt ‘loose’. The headgear wasn;t sitting properly, whenever I moved the mask would slip out of my nose and leak air. Still, I persevered figuring I had to give it a try.

Anyway… I spent hours wriggling and struggling and half-waking until at 3:00 a.m. I was finally sufficiently awake and aware to yank that mask off and reinstate the previous one. Of course the squirming and clacking noises woke the wife. Experience warning me this was a bad move, I went a bit quiet… as you do… and back to sleep she went… with me following shortly afterwards.

At 5:59 I wake as usual… a little tired and confused after only 3 hours sleep… and realised the alarm hadn’t gone off. I leaned over, turned off the pump then rolled back towards the wife to wake her up so she could get ready for work. She wakes with a start and groans “Ooh the alarm didn’t go off!!

She followed this a few seconds with “Hang on… it’s Saturday!!”

Now the wife is a calm tempered easy going sort of person… I have to say that ‘cos she reads this… but some things do tend to get her a little aggravated. One thing certain to disturb her equilibrium is to be woken early on a weekend for no good purpose. To be fair, this *is* her only chance to have a good lie in. She was especially looking forward to this one because it’s the first one for yonks that didn’t involve having to get up early to get the kids away to ice-skating. I let her go back to sleep… how self-sacrificing of me :)… then woke her a *lot* later with some toast and a cup of tea.

Living dangerously seems to be a part of my make up and waking the wife early on a Saturday morning is about as dangerous as it can get!!

But you can see what I mean about anticipation?? Just two examples from two peoples life’s. I think it establishes it really isn’t something we need to get excited about… it always fails. I’m with Doris Day on this one… que sera, sera. šŸ˜€
