Over the past few weeks a fire has been quietly burning in the Blue Mountains… currently it’s raging betwen the towns of
Bell and Mt Victoria (but about 3 k from each) and is being fanned by high winds. S
o far it’s destroyed somewhere in the region of 10,000 hectares… yet tonight the place is expecting a blanket of **snow**!
We don’t get snow very often in Sydney of course. People have claimed it has happened in the last 10 years or so but I think they are trying to pull a fast one because I have a Welsh accent. I’ve not seen nor heard of any falling anywhere other than up in the mountains.
Personally I like snow… I’d like a lot of it right now especially! Thing is the forecasts are saying that even in the snow fell *over* the fire it wouldn’t be enough to put the fire out… maybe just slow it down a little.
It even snowed in Tasmania earlier today… which is where this picture at Henty Gold Mine was taken. It’s cooler down there than here… but even so it’s not normal to be getting snow this time of year anywhere!

Fires are nothing unusual of course. The year before we migrated, Sydney was all bar cut off from the rest of Australia for several days while fires raged all round it. We’ve driven down the Pacific Highway with fires raging both sides of the road… loads of fun π but it’s unusual to say the least to get fire and snow together.
The climate down here is getting weirder by the minute!!
