I’ve been watching the History Channel.. and since we are approaching Rememberance Day it is serving well as a reminder of how bad it was to live and/or fight through a war.
In the current programme we are learning one version of the story that the German SS massacred 81 US POW’s. They mowed men down and shot the wounded. Many soldiers were tried for the deaths. It’s an oddly long very strange tale, even for the times… but was just one of many such tales.
At the very least it reminds those of us who’s parents made it through how lucky they… and of course we… were and are.
A museum is to be opened next to the site of the Malmedy Massacre. The opening ceremony will be attended by a survivor of the massacre and other veterans who were captured by Kampfgruppe Peiper but survived. The following website tells about this project:
