A new mechanical contraption has been developed which should end the scourge of head lice. It is supposed to be so effective it is unlikely that lice will ever be able to develop any resistance to its effects.
Instead of using chemicals like Malathion etc on a childs scalp… it works by heat. In effect it is a hot running hair dryer which kills by drying out both lice *and* eggs so that eggs are unable to hatch and any lice that might survive the treatment are sterilised. It’s claimed that within one week all lice will be gone from a childs head!
There is evidence to suggest that using a simple household hair dryer for 30 mins will kill most lice on a childs head but they are never hot enough to kill eggs as well… though I suppose using the hairdryer for 30 minutes every night for a week or so might well serve as well?? Maybe?
Anyway. The drawback with this device is that it is likely to cost several hundred dollars so would perhaps be something “Nitty Nora, the Head Explorer” (i.e. the school or district nurse) would use rather than be something a household would buy and keep?
