I’m not sure executing Saddam Hussein will result in any more peace for Iraq than is has currently. I’m also wondering how many people have died since the invasion compared with projection of how many would have died had the invasion *not* have taken place.
My objection to the death penalty is on record, but I can’t see there was ever going to be an alternative verdict… even though the result of his death may well be open revolt. The USA want him dead… end of story.
Just think how peaceful the region might have been if the USA hadn’t armed him to the teeth in order that he might fight their war against Iran? Millions dead… and entire region in turmoil for 20 years… and for what? More oil for the USA. Quite pathetic really.
