The wife took delivery of a Toyota Prius a couple of weeks ago, She has driven it to and from work through city traffic and down motorways – she loves it. I know Kyte uses one at work as well… and I think she’d like to own one as well… but you’ll have to ask her ๐
For anyone who isn’t aware, the Prius is a ‘hybrid’ that is it runs on both electricity and petrol depending on need (which *it* decides).
I’ve heard all sorts of arguments for and against the things but none of the cons really make sense. In fact the *only* valid con as far as I can see is that it isn’t as pretty as it maybe might be… but since the shape was created to help reduce wind resistance and improve consumption it’s hardly a big problem.

Is it large enough? Well I’m getting on for 2 metres and 160 kilos and I drove it quite comfortably so I’d say yes. It carries four in comfort and 5 at a squeeze. Is it economical? Well hell yes. The wife is currently getting *4* litres per 100k which to me sounds incredible for a 5 seater. My Chrysler Voyager people mover uses 14 ltr/100 so hers is damn cheap to run. Range? Well since she’s had it she’s been getting over 1000 k’s to the tank and this latest one looks to take her 1300 k’s.
The price doesn;t appear cheap it’s true… but bearing in mind the cost of petrol the ‘excess’ more than covers the higher price within a couple of years. Even so, the level of technological gear that comes with the car makes it worth the money… the fact you save a huge amount of oil as well is an even bigger incentive.
Is this a blatant plug for the vehicle? Yup… and with good reason… it is s seriously *great* little car and if you’re in the market for a new car you’d have to go a long long way to better this one.
