Monday night saw the release of an episode of Australian Story featuring Bindi Irwin who told how her fathers death and the subsequent media pressure was affecting her life. Other members of the family also spoke to reassure supporters of their intense desire to protect not only Bindi, Bob and Terri… but Steve’s memory and ideals.
Over one million people watched the program… which I missed and will have to wait for the replay… typically.
Unfortunately, while I accept this girl is precocious confident and intelligent… it *still* doesn’t alter the fact that she’s only eight years old and has very recently lost a father with whom she had spent most of her life… literally! She hasn’t had sufficient time to grieve or come to terms with her loss and I am concerned that the Irwin Media Machine is acting with indecent haste to drape the mantle of her fathers dreams around her slight shoulders.
