Can’t say I’m for it… but then I’ve never been a great lover of it… ever. I think it should be banned.
I clearly recall being taken to a match in my home town when I was a small child. Watching grown men giving each other brain damage was bad enough, but what really made me sad even at that early age, was the sight of two little boys ‘juniors’ no more than 7 years old…being pitched into battle against the other. They were clearly ill-matched and one was quite obviously (even to my untrained eye) scared witless.
Sure enough… a minute or so into the round he got a massive belt across the head and collapsed in floods of tears. Why or how that little kid was persuaded to get into a ring I don’t know… however I’ve never forgotten it and never will.
Sure watching a few of the greats, especially Clay/Ali was exciting… but Ali was one on his own and there’s never been anyone like him.
Nevertheless womens boxing has become flavour of the month as ‘feminism’ wins yet another utterly pointless battle in the march to equality. I see no reason for *mens* boxing to be allowed to continue so why women would want to take it up is totally beyond me.
