Oh ma gawd… it looks like it’s gonna be a bad year. Already just a few k’s from us a couple of houses went up in smoke… drove past them today when picking up one of the eldest daughters friends… too close to them for comfort.. and not that far from us really. Now I read there are at least 100 fires burning their way across New South Wales, Tassie and Victoria.
Ok the worst fire currently in NSW up in the Hunter Valley so we’re safe enough – but it’s still a concern. The photo is of fire threatening a firebreak… and a very small fire it is.
We saw far, far worse when we were on our way back from holidays a few years back. As we drove down the Pacific Highway fires were blazing out of control both sides and we were driving through a pall of smoke. When we got back we couldn’t see across the road and it stayed like that for a week… I’m not sure my lungs have recovered yet.
So this year? Well my fingers are crossed… I bought new hoses and I have a couple of buckets ready. We’ll pack up some of our most needed gear and pack it in an old ammunition box we have to keep it safe. Will we need to be so prepared? Well it’s early spring and the temperature has risen above 35ºC already.
Got to be sure… to be sure…. to be sure… I hate bushfires.
