Out somewhere in an Indonesian jail, convicted Australian drug smuggler 20 year old Scott Rush is waiting to see if John Howard will even try to persuade his Indonesian counterpart (President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono) to commute his death sentence and save his life.
I wonder if it ever crosses his mind that he might have saved his own life by not going to Indonesia to smuggle drugs in the first place? Well probably yes… but it’s far too late for that now.
As much as I’m against capital punishment, I find it hard to drum up much sympathy for someone who deliberately went out of their way to break a law that carries a death penalty.
He’s been a silly, silly boy.
