Ice Skating… is *not* cheap!

Kiddlies Ice Skating rink is having their annual Christmas Pageant… so of course because the kids are now skating regularly and have a had a few ‘group’ lessons, they want to take part. So of course they need ‘the gear’ to look as good as everyone else… even tho of course ‘everyone else’ doesn’t have the gear either… but still.

So off we go to the Pro Shop at a different ‘local rink’ in order to buy them skates. Luckily this guy knows the sport well so he has a cheapo pair he can let us have which are as good quality as the basic ‘brand name’ skates but cheaper. Two pairs at $120 each please and off we go. They’ll arrive Tuesday sharpened and loaded for bear.

In the meantime of course they will need a costume… I mean those leotard things with the short skirt… so off we go to get them… $300 later they are kitted out.

Of course things can only be *really* good if *they* are really good… so now we have to organise lessons. Which teacher is available… well this one but of course she’s the best… not sure what constitutes ‘best’ but she charges $1 a minute… which could be worse I suppose. So for the kids to have 15 mins tuition we pay $15… each… we think. First proper individual lesson is Monday arvo – 4:00 p.m. We booked them in for a 30 mins assessment… no idea how much it’ll cost yet… but at least we’ll have an idea if it’s worthwhile carrying on with the individual lessons… and I can’t begin to guess what the result will be… bearing in mind it’s this woman living to have us all pay through the nose for them.
So… we have to pay for access to the rink for the term… plus skates… plus clothes… plus private lessons… and all for a sport that has no practical use whatsoever.

Madness I call it.
