Since the ‘sister site’ to this blog is called Australian Opinion you might be interested to know why I have two domains whose names sound so similar. Simple story really.
For several years, the Australian Opinion domain belonged to a guy called Ron. I met Ron 10 years ago or so while we were both members of a bizarre little group called the ozdebaters… more of that in another post. 🙂
Over the years, as you do, we went seperate ways but still occasionally met up on odd forums here and there. I was busy with the Dictionary and with Talktidy (my other two main domains) but he was more into blogging and forum creation.
One of the forums he created was Australian Opinion… and a damn good site it was. Very well presented and popular. Trouble is Ron got fed up with it and closed it… then reopened it… then closed it. This went on for several more iterations and then one day he decided he’d had enough of the internet and decided to close up permanently.
He decided after some debate that he’d pass it on… and eventually it ended up in my incapable hands. I went off and bought software… and here we are.
So why the ‘extra’ domain that *this* is on? During one of the more extended hiatus periods of the AO forum, I got fed up with the constant closures, registered this domain because if was close to the proginal, loaded forum software up and away it went… just as Ron reopened AO again 🙂
In the end I decided to give up and just ‘blog’ so kept the domain never realising I might end up controlling both domains… though I *am* quite pleased it worked out this way.
