Philip Ruddock – terrorist?

It’s hard to belive that someone in the position of Attorney-General of Australia could possibly not only condone the use of torture but actually bemoan the creation of laws expressly forbidding it, yet this is what our Attorney-General Philip Ruddock has said. In his opinion banning torture will hinder the fight against terrosism!

What the hell is the world coming to when people in such high office of government *defend* the use of tactics they are supposed to condemn?

If ‘terrorists’ are known to have used torture against hostages etc we rightly be condem them in no uncertain terms but it seems it’s ok for ‘us’ to use it against ‘them’.

Sorry but I find this offensive and it’s totally against what I understand by the word civilisation. Specifically he thinks ‘sleep deprivation’ is not something he considers to be torture. As an ongoing suffere of Sleep Apnoea I can assure him that sleep deprivation is a hideous thing to experience even after a lifetime’s experience of dealing with it. Before he spouts this sort of arrant nonsense he would be well advised to research the subject which it’s clear that so far he has not.
I’m also beginning to understand more clearly why the Federal Government is doing as little as possible to help David Hicks! Our leaders may well be as fundamentally ad as the people they claim to be defending us against.
