Electric Car – conspiracy?

Conspiracy theories abound on the web but there are times when you really have to wonder if there is some truth in some. A case in point is the release in Australia of the Reva Electric Car.

This wonderful bit of kit is built in India and has been selling well all around Europe. It’s been imported into Australia by Reva Australia but is not allowed to be sold! Why? Well government restriction mainly. The full story about the car can be read here.

The Reva
It really needs to be released and soon. I for one would jump at the chance to own one. Most of my motoring is done taking the kids to school and back with the occasional shopping trip. I pay currently around $100 a week for petrol. The car is priced at $15,000 so at that cost, it would pay for itself in three years just in the cost of fuel saved. I suppose I’d have to question whether the car would be able to carry three people… but even so it’d be worth a serious look!
It really makes you wonder if the government is in a conspiracy with the oil producers to keep this little car off the market despite the escalating costs of petrol in both economic *and* environmental terms.

I wrote to Federal transport minister Warren Truss at his address W.Truss.MP@aph.gov.au asking when we can expect legislation to be passed to allow the car on the road – not heard anything yet but if you are interested in the environment I’d suggest *you* also read the story at the link above and write as well!!
